This was the week that was.....

It has been an interesting week of many events worth savoring or commented on. In no particular order:

Item #1: We remembered the excitement of seeing the first man on the moon - for real. We were celebrating our engagement, lo those 40 years ago, with John and Kay Amdon at a fancy, dancey beach- front restaurant when everyone dining suddenly rushed into the bar, surrounding the none-too-big TV, to watch the historical event of man landing on the moon. It was really something! And for a few, very undignified moments, everyone cheered and yelled and hugged despite the fact everyone was dressed to the nines and no one knew each other. It didn't matter. It was a moment of American history and we felt the patriotic joys of the event down to our toes.

Item #2: We became corn sellers for another season... We have had many of our dear friends (aka customers) stop in to buy the first offerings of the season. It has been delightful. Lots of hugs and smiles. Karl Miller's son stopped by on a bike, mind you, with his son. They were on their way up the canyon, but he stopped by to tell us about his Dad. How we loved dear, old Karl. And he was that - OLD! 105 when he died. Sadly, we were out of town when he died so we missed the funeral and even knowing until we read an old newspaper. Karl was a dear friend who came to the corn stand every year faithfully. His son promised to stop by with Karl's life history so we could "read all about him" and we are anxious to do just that.

Item #3: We drove to Salt Lake City on Sunday to attend the celebration of the Tabernacle Choir's 80th year broadcasting. After the usual Music and the Spoken Word presentation, several awards were presented and President Monson also spoke. I love how an entire mass of people stand in quiet reverence when the Prophet enters a room. There is a feeling there like none other. It was also fun to see our friends in the choir albeit at a distance: Our dear friend Dale Boman, Alex Boye (he has done shows with us), and Stacey Segura's sister Shaun Humphries. And let us not forget the choir director himself, Mack Wilberg. The music was magnificent and we had a wonderful time. We were wishing the whole time that all of our children could have shared the experience with us.

Item #4: Okay, so Scruffy may still be working on "Come", but the clever little fellow can open the back door all by himself. Now you must admit that is quite a trick, eh? I guess that is the advantage or disadvantage of having a French door handle.... But it is pretty funny.

Item #5: Lisa Foster Maddox and Marisa May's sister (embarrassing, I can't recall her name at the moment) stopped by for a visit and then we later met at a restaurant for a bite to eat. It was pretty darn fun. Emily, Max and Jane were with us plus all of Lisa and whatshername's kids totally 14 kids 12 and under!!!! But it was still pretty darn fun. All of the kids were terrific, well disciplined and so well behaved and polite. Lisa has done a terrific job with her seven kids. I think I am in love with her 10 year old son.... He sure does know how to be nice to "old" folks like us...

Item #7: I am concluding this lengthy bit of trivia with my current love for power naps... Between working at the hotel on Sunday night, working Mon-Sat mornings selling corn and rehearsing Mon-Fri nights and on Sat afternoons for "Over the River" - there is no doubt....POWER NAPS RULE.....

And that's the way it was....as a recently departed, beloved newscaster used to say....
