We had rather a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas, leaving on Tuesday a.m. (early) and driving home Wednesday afternoon. It is rather amazing how much you can squeeze into such a short period of time.
Our motivation for the trip was to join Jeremy and Corinne, who had flown in on Sunday night late, to begin their search for a nesting place in Las Vegas when they make their big move there this summer. They looked at several options on Monday and we joined them on their quest when we arrived on Tuesday. It is rather interesting to see Las Vegas, not as a tourist, but as an interested party considering a place to actually live...While we are not planning a move, we of course had a vested interest. We wanted to see where their opportunities were and it was quite fun scouting out areas with them. Not everything they looked at was even a possibility, but the variety was there. After searching out a few areas you realize those who keep their neighborhoods prestine and lovely make things inviting and charming in spite of the lack of greenery and grass. Lots of homes actually were surrounded by desert acceptable greenery albeit not always grassy... Interesting, eh? Tuesday was quite stressful. Nothing "knocked their socks off" as it were and the clock was ticking. Their "digs" were at the Wynn Hotel and they invited us to share their spacious and luxurious room. Wowee! And what a spectacular view. We were on the 51st (I think-all I know was it was HIGH) and the view was incredible. Gorgeous golf course below, the swimming pools, miles and miles of beautiful landscape, etc. Breathtaking. We could have just sat in the chairs and gazed out our entire stay had we not had things to do... The bathroom was huge - so beautiful. Wouldn't it be fun to be so rich you could stay there every time you went to Las Vegas??? Even the bottom floor of the hotel which housed all the gambling facility was gorgeously decorated. Spectacular ceilings, gorgous wall sconces and decor. Very nice, very nice... We ate a lovely meal in one of the restaurants. So pleasant and so yummy besides. Thanks to the young Bairds for showering such nicities on the old Bairds. We even took in the free show overlooking the water pools. Two huge red flowers (on a crane like apparatus) appeared over the water and did what appeared to be almost a polinating performance. Hmmm. Not sure we were suppose to watch, but it seemed harmless enough -JK!!!! The water and gorgeously landscaped trees where beautifuly lit and the water swirled and became a show in and of itself. Absolutely beautiful. We arose early and bright the next morning and reluctantly left our room so we could continue to search for a place for the Young Baird Troupe to live....And finally the perfect place was found - in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by lovely neighbors who took pride in their surroundings, etc. Although we were unable look inside (the tenants were out of town and a lock box had not been in place yet, the vibes were good and it just seemed right. Jeremy and Corinne decided to sign the lease (sight unseen) with the option they would not take it if the photos the real estate agent was going to send them proved the inside to be less than what they hoped for. It is a walkable distance to schools (which rate very well) and to our surprise, as we left the neighborhood, there was an LDS Church not very far away. How was that for putting the final touch on what felt like the percet spot! We were so happy for Jeremy and Corinne. We talked about it almost the entire trip back to Utah. Jeremy and Corinne were off on their flight home and there we were on the highway home. A quick goodbye and hugs and poof, our fun, quick and almost magical trip was over. The trip home was pleasant. We made several stops for goodies, walks and out of the car experiences (nothing quite like extra terrestrial I suspect. Home was waiting for us. Everything had been well watered by Mother Nature so the yard looked great. We were anxious to see Emily and the children on Thursday, pick up Scruffy from the vet, pick up our car from the car repair place and return the rental Ford Focus back to Enterprise (though I must admit that was a little tough - it was a pretty sweet ride). I went to the Hale Centre Theatre in Orem for my audition and today received word that I am cast as Aida in "Over the River and Through the Woods" - a lovely play by Joe DiPietro. Yet again I get to play an "old lady" - Italian this time. But I have done this role before and it is one of my absolute favorites. It is all about family. And I must say, when all is said and done, TENGO FAMIGLIA - which translates to - I support a family - I have a reason to be alive. I think that means more than financial support. It means much more.
