Considering the fact that it has almost been one year to the day since I posted last, I thought I would shock everyone by making an entry on my blog. This has been quite the year and I have indeed chalked up another candle on the birthday cake. The interesting thing I have learned since entering this year of my life is I had better concentrate a little harder at enjoying it considering I am currently on a speedy downhill slope. When we are young we think life will go one forever. But, dear hearts, there does come a time when you realize that is no longer the case and I ponder, at times, how little time I actually have left on this earth. Not that I am contemplating an early demise here. It is just food for thought.
I enjoyed a year of theater experiences starting with the role of Mrs. Medlock in "Secret Garden" at the Hale. I was double cast and felt fortunate to be in the M,W, F cast. Such beautiful music. Then I had the opportunity to play Martha in "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Hale sharing the stage nightly not only with a fantastic cast of actors and Jayne Luke as Abby, but best of all, dear HK played Mr. Gibbs nightly as well. Fun to share a brief scene with him every night. Because I had to miss the show two days to film for the Church, Laurie Harrop, the director of Arsenic, was kind enough to pitch in and play Martha. Oh how I would have love to have seen that! But I was having a spectacular experience of my own on the Jerusalem set in Goshen playing the mother of the man blind since birth. It was only a two day shoot, but as always, a spectacular experience. Hopefully this time my performance will not end up on the cutting room floor which has happened on two other such filming experiences... I also had the opportunity to do a voice over for the church. Love getting paid for such fun opportunities. To end the year we opened "Lend Me A Tenor" at the Hale with the official opening night on New Year's Eve with preview performance prior to that. A small cast of seven extremely talented performers I had never worked with before. We will close this Saturday, February 16, 2013 after a schedule of 7 performances a week since opening. It will certainly be a double edged sword to put this show to bed. It is usually difficult after a run, but with only eight in the cast, we have become very close friends. I hope our friendships continue.
We finally have all of our children on the West coast. Jeremy and his family are in Las Vegas and moved into a larger, very beautiful home there. Jenny and Mark moved into their gorgeous new home in Meridian. I am so very happy for them. Lovely home, neighborhood and community. Then Jeff and Kerri and their three little girls moved to Laguna Niguel after living a few months with us when Jeff got a spectacular job with an accounting firm in Newport Beach, CA. So happy for them. And California is so much closer than Fairfax, VA!!! Luckily Emily and her family still live close enough for us to see on a regular basis which makes us very happy.
HK had a year of painful sciatica and finally decided to have back surgery. I was very worried something might go wrong and was so hoping he would wait until the show closed. Selfish of me to expect him to delay relief. He had his surgery in spite of my worries and has done so well in recovering. I am so happy for him.
We lost two dear, dear friends this year. First with the passing of our much beloved friend Dale Nelson. How we will miss his friendship and wit. He was a very gracious and kind man. And then, dear Friend Jean finally went home to a happier life - Emily, HK and I flew to California and back the same day to attend her funeral December 4th. Expensive, quick and worth every minute. Jean was the dearest, kindest and most cherished friend. We loved her as did all of our children. She to will be missed, but we are happy for her current status.
Jeremy had some health problems this year which certainly gave us great concern. He had quite the bout with blood clots and one considered a "widow maker" clot in his groin. Jeremy has always been a giver not a taker and we know that he was blessed for his goodness.
We have been blessed with all of our children. They are good people. They care about others and are quick to give help to others. We are still learning from them.
I guess this is a long enough post for this time. Who knows when I will get back to this, but at least I can honestly say I put in my 2 cents worth for 2013, eh.
