You recall that Emily, Max, Jane and Dad went to California to attend the funeral of Lisa Aleman Watson while I was in Washington DC (the week before he joined us there). They all stayed with the Nelson's who are always so accommodating and kind to provide us with a "hotel" which is always much fancier than a mere Marriott or bed and breakfast. I think I had shared the shocking news of Dale Nelson's decision to retire. Whan we arrived home from our visit with the VA Johnsons, we discovered this note in our mail. It is worth sharing with you.
Barbara wrote: Fifteen minutes after you levft we were cooking breakfast for Dough and Heather when in walked our children from out of state. We were shocked! They had all come for Da;e's retirement!! They had a wonderful weekend planned - w had dinner tht night at the Flamingo Steak House. Then a video of each grandchild to Dad (they want him to start playing basketball, fishing, golf, billiards, etc. Then came the big surprise. The told us we were leaving for Rome, Sunday, April 20th for a week! Then as if that wasn't enough, Doug and Heather anounced a new baby is coming in November. We had a wonderful Sundy together and they all left for home. When we get home from Rome he'll probably find time to use the yarn and knitting needles he got at his celebration Saturday night. Pretty fun, eh? Poor Dad. I don't think I even gave him a card. No trips to Rome in our future. But maybe someone in the family could at least plan a new baby is coming or something like that???????????????????

No more grandkids from these kids. :-) LIke Emily told me, "You've fought the good fight." I hope it's enough.
